Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My God is forever Immaculate and Pure. With a pure mind, He can be found.
If the Treasure of the Name of the Lord abides within the mind — egotism and pain are totally eliminated.
The True Guru has instructed me in the Word of the Shabad. I am forever a sacrifice to Him.
Mera prabh nirmal nirmal sadaa, nirmal man paa-ee-ai — my God is forever Immaculate (nirmal — pure, without stain, literally waterlike in clarity), and He can be found by a pure mind. The correspondence principle: like meets like. The pure divine is found by the pure mind — not because God withholds Himself from impure minds, but because purity is the state in which the divine can be perceived. A murky glass doesn't see clearly; a clear glass does.
Har naam dhan man vasai, haumai peedh gaawaa-ee-ai — if the Treasure of the Lord's Name abides within the mind, egotism (haumai) and pain (peedh — disease, suffering) are completely eliminated (gaawaa-ee-ai — destroyed, eradicated). The Name as the specific medicine for the specific disease: haumai and pain are the pathology; the Name dwelling in the mind is the cure. Not a supplement but a replacement: where the Name is, haumai cannot remain.
Satgur sabad updaydh hai, ha-o saad saad kurbaanee — the True Guru has given me instruction (updaydh) through the Shabad; I am forever (saad saad — always and always) a sacrifice (kurbaanee) to Him. Saad saad kurbaanee — the doubled phrase intensifying the devotion. Not once, not occasionally — forever and always, a sacrifice to the Guru who gave the instruction that changed everything.
What would a purer mind look like for you — less of what, more of what — and how would you go about cultivating it?
