The soul-bird lives in the beautiful tree of the body. With love for the Guru, she pecks at Truth.
She drinks in the Sublime Essence of the Lord and abides in intuitive ease. She does not fly around coming and going.
She obtains her home right here, within her own heart — absorbed into the Name of the Lord.
Sohilai dar-akht mah pakkhioo, sach chugai gur bhaa-ay — the soul-bird (pakkhioo — bird) lives in the beautiful tree (sohalai dar-akht — the beautiful/lovely tree) of the body, pecking at Truth (sach chugai) with love for the Guru (gur bhaa-ay). The body as a tree, the soul as a bird living within it: one of the richest ecological images in the GGS. The question the image asks: what kind of bird are you being in the tree of your body?
Har ras peevai sahj rahi-aa, aavan jaavan nah thaa-ay — she drinks the Sublime Essence (har ras) of the Lord and abides in intuitive ease (sahj — the natural equilibrium, effortless peace); she is not in the coming-and-going cycle (aavan jaavan nah — no coming and going, no samsara). The bird that pecks Truth has found the fruit right there in the tree. She doesn't need to fly anywhere to find what she needs.
Ghar mah ghar paa-i-aa har naam samaa-i-aa — she finds her home right within her heart (ghar mah ghar — home within the home, the inner home within the outer home); she is absorbed into the Name. The nested home: the body is one home, and within it is a deeper home — the heart, the sacred inner space — and that is where the Naam lives. The soul-bird who pecks Truth finds that home. She doesn't need to leave the tree.
What is the 'home within your home' — the deep inner space where you feel most truly yourself — and how often do you actually live there?
