In plain words

Without love, there is no devotional worship. Without the Shabad, no one finds acceptance.

Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued — and the illusion of Maya is dispelled.

The Gurmukh obtains the Treasure of the Naam with intuitive ease.

Without love, no devotional worship; without the Shabad, no acceptance — but through the Shabad, ego falls and the Naam's Treasure is found with ease.
The deeper layer

This one says devotion needs two things: love, and the Guru's Word.

Bin pareetee bhagat na hova-ee: without love, there is no bhagat, devotion. Bin sabdai thaa-ay na paa-ay: without the Shabad, the Guru's Word, no one is welcomed. Both are needed. Love without the Shabad is a feeling with no anchor. The Shabad without love is an empty shell. Together they make real devotion. It's like a kite: love is the wind, and the Shabad is the string. Without wind it won't rise. Without string it blows away.

Sabday ha-umai maaree-ai: through the Shabad, the ego is beaten. Maaree-ai is a strong word. It means struck down. The Shabad doesn't politely bargain with the ego. It defeats it. Maa-i-aa kaa bharam jaa-ay: and maya's trick falls away. Surface habits can't do this. The Shabad changes who we are at the root, and the ego loses its footing.

Naam padaarath paa-ee-ai gurmukh sahj subhaa-ay: the gurmukh gets the treasure of the Name, easily and naturally. After the ego is beaten, what is left is the gurmukh's natural state: sahj, easy, calm closeness to the Name. It doesn't come from straining. It is what shows up when the ego's noise is gone.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that you try to do from willpower that might actually work better if it came from love?
