Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
By great good fortune, the Name is obtained. Following the Guru's Teachings, through the Shabad, you shall be exalted.
God, the Creator Himself, dwells within the mind.
Remain absorbed in the state of intuitive balance.
This one says the Name comes as a gift, and then the Creator lives right inside you.
Vadai bhaag naa-o paa-ee-ai: "By great good fortune, the Name is found." That "fortune" is grace, a gift. We can try hard, and trying matters. But the Name isn't won by effort alone.
That doesn't mean the One is keeping it from people for no reason. Receiving it takes a meeting: meeting the Guru, and having a mind that's ready. Both are gifts.
Think of a surprise birthday party. You can't plan your own surprise. You can only be home when your friends knock.
Aapay man vasi-aa parabh kartaa: "God, the Creator Himself, lives in the mind." Not a picture or an idea of the One, but the One. We can find the One in holy places and holy books, and the Guru keeps pointing us to the same home: within.
Sehjay rahi-aa samaa-ee: "stays soaked in sahaj." Sahaj means easy, natural balance. It is calm without straining, like a boat resting still on quiet water.
What role does fortune or grace play in your life — are there moments where something good happened to you that you couldn't have planned or earned? What did that feel like?
