The happy soul-bride is attuned to the Word of the Shabad — she is in love with the True Guru.
She continually enjoys and ravishes her Beloved with true love and affection.
She is loving, beautiful, and noble.
Nanak says: through the Naam, the happy soul-bride unites with the Lord of Union.
The positive pole
The contrast to Pauri61 is complete. Where the manmukh bride burns and cries, the Gurmukh bride enjoys. Suhāginī — the happy soul-bride, the one whose marriage is intact and joyful — is attuned to the Shabad. Her orientation is the Guru's teaching. And from that orientation flows:
Sadā bhog karai Pi'ārē, sach pirham pi'āri — "She continually enjoys and ravishes her Beloved, with true love and affection." The erotic language of divine union in Punjabi mystical poetry: the soul and the Lord in a continuous, mutual enjoyment. The bride does not merely receive — she ravishes. The relationship is fully mutual, fully alive, fully joyful.
"Lord of Union"
Nānak Nāmai suhāginī, Har milaī milanī thi'ā'i — "through the Naam, the happy soul-bride unites with the Lord of Union." Milanī — the Lord of Union, the one whose nature is union, the one who brings together what was separated. The soul-bride's marriage is with the Lord who is constitutionally the Joiner, the Reconciler, the Uniter. In Him, the separation ends.
The adjectives
Manmohaṇī suṇdarī sabhāvī — "she is loveable, beautiful and noble." These are the qualities that emerge from genuine devotion: she is loveable (others are drawn to her), beautiful (the inner beauty of alignment), and noble (sabhāvī — gentle, gracious, well-natured). These are not performed. They are the natural state of the genuinely connected soul.
*Think of something you love that makes you feel genuinely good — not excited for a moment but actually peaceful and alive. What is that love doing to you? What does it reveal about what you need?*
