Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Chant the Name of the Lord day and night. Turn to the Guru, and know the Lord's wealth.
All comfort and peace, and the sweet taste of the Lord, come by gaining wisdom with the Saints.
Day and night, serve the Lord God. The True Guru has given the Name.
This verse says the real wealth is the Name, and you find it by remembering it all day and by keeping good company.
Raam naam jap dinas raat — repeat the Lord's Name day and night. Gurmukh har Dhan jaan — as a Gurmukh, someone turned toward the Guru, come to know the Lord's wealth.
"Day and night" matters. The Name is not only for a set time, like a class that starts and ends with a bell. It is a way of facing the whole day. Think of a favorite song you hum while walking, cooking, or brushing your teeth. It goes with you everywhere.
Sabh sukh har ras bhogney — all comfort and peace, and the sweet taste of the Lord, are enjoyed. Sant sabhaa mil gi-aan — by gaining wisdom in the sant sabhaa, the gathering of holy people, the Sangat. You don't find this wealth alone. You find it with others who are looking too.
Nit ahinis har parabh sayvi-aa satgur dee-aa naam — keep serving the Lord day and night, for the True Guru has given the Name. The treasure is already a gift in your hands.
Where do you actually find genuine comfort and peace? Is it in things, in people, in practices? What does that tell you?
