Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Within the mind — right now, as you are — there are emeralds, rubies, the jewel of the Name, treasures, diamonds.
The Name is the true merchandise and wealth. In each and every heart, the presence is deep and profound.
O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the diamond by the kindness and compassion of the oneness.
This last part answers the first one. Earlier we tested our minds on the touchstone. What did we find? Jewels.
Man meh maanak laal naam ratan padaarath heer: inside the mind are emeralds and rubies, the jewel of the Naam (the Name), treasures and diamonds. The jewel was there the whole time. It's like finding out the old box in your closet has been full of gold coins all along.
Ghat ghat gahir gambheer: in every single heart, the One is deep and wide.
How do we find it? Da-i-aa karay har heer: the One, the Diamond, shows kindness. That kindness is what lets the finding happen. It's grace, a gift that makes the jewel visible. The Gurus call it gurprasad, the Guru's gift. It isn't a prize and it isn't earned. It is like opening an eye that was always there.
Have you ever suddenly seen something valuable about yourself or your life that was always there but you hadn't recognized? What made you see it?
