Give up your selfishness, and you shall find peace; like water mingling with water, you shall merge in absorption. ||2||

In plain words

The jewel of the mind — what is most essential in you — is priceless. Through the Name, honor is obtained.

Join the true community and find the Lord. The one who is genuinely oriented toward the teaching embraces love for the oneness.

Give up selfishness and you find peace — like water merging with water, you dissolve into absorption.

Like water merging with water, you dissolve into the larger without disappearing — you expand.
The deeper layer

The merger image (jal meh jal miliai) — water merging with water — is one of the most beautiful in Gurbani. It describes a complete dissolution without loss: the individual water does not disappear — it becomes indistinguishable from the larger body.

"Give up selfishness and find peace" — the cause-and-effect is precise. Not: work hard and receive peace. But: release selfishness (the structural error) and peace reveals itself, because it was always there underneath.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt truly unselfconscious — completely absorbed in something, with no awareness of yourself as separate? What was that like?
