He Loves in So Many Ways

He continually ravishes and enjoys the happy soul-brides; just look at the plight I am in without Him! ||3||

In plain words

He Himself loves in so many ways. O sister soul-brides, He is my Beloved.

He is always with the happy soul-brides and delights in them. Just look at how I am, without Him!

The ache of separation is a form of love too — it knows precisely what it is missing.
The deeper layer

This verse is the voice of someone who misses the Beloved and says so honestly.

Aapay baho biDh rangulaa — He loves in so many ways. Sakhee-ay mayraa laal — O friends, He is my darling. Nit ravai sohaaganee — He is always with the happy brides, the sohaaganee, who feel close to Him. Daykh hamaaraa haal — but look at how I am, without Him.

The verses before described the One as everything, from far above. Now it turns personal. The speaker has not yet felt that closeness, and it hurts a little.

Think of watching your friends hug their grandma at the airport while you wait for yours, whose plane is late. You are happy for them. And you feel the missing more.

That missing is not a failure. Many seekers say the ache is itself a kind of love. It knows exactly what it is looking for. You can only miss something so much because you love it.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever missed something so specifically that you could feel its shape in the missing? What was that like?
