Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The truthful ones are not stained by filth. Meditating on the Lord, their minds remain pure.
The Gurmukhs realize the Word of the Shabad and are immersed in the nectar of the Name.
The Guru has lit the brilliant light of spiritual wisdom, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
This line says: a mind full of truth stays clean, and the Guru's wisdom lights up the dark.
Saachay mail na laag-ee: dirt does not stick to the truthful. Man nirmal har dhi-aa-ay: remembering the Lord, their mind stays nirmal, clean and clear.
Think of a raincoat. Rain hits it, but it runs right off. When the mind is filled with truth, ego, greed and anger have nothing to hold on to.
Gurmukh sabad pachhaanee-ai: the Gurmukh, the one who follows the Guru, comes to know the Shabad, the Guru's Word. Har amrit naam samaa-ay: they sink into the Name, sweet as amrit, nectar.
Gur gi-aan parchand balaa-i-aa: the Guru has lit a blazing lamp of gi-aan, spiritual wisdom. Agi-aan andhayraa jaa-ay: and the darkness of agi-aan, not knowing, goes away.
Light and darkness can't share a room. When you flip on the light switch, you don't have to push the dark out. It is simply gone. Wisdom works like that with confusion.
Is there a situation in your life where being completely honest would actually be protective — not exposing you but shielding you from something? What would that honesty look like?
