O Nanak — the Gurmukh merges in Truth. They are absorbed in the True Lord.
The question from the beginning — 'Whom shall I serve? What shall I chant?' — is answered not by finding the right answer, but by merging with the questioner's Source.
The question and the questioner dissolve together into the One they were always part of.
The closing pauri resolves the opening question: the Gurmukh doesn't settle on a particular answer to "whom shall I serve?" — they merge in Truth. The merging is the answer. When you are united with the One, the question of whom to serve becomes moot: you serve what you are part of.
Sat meh samaaee — merged in Truth. The soul-bride metaphor from other shabads resolves here: merged with the Husband, the separation is ended.
Have you ever had the experience of a question that you'd been carrying for a long time simply dissolving — not being answered, but no longer needing an answer? What happened?
