Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The virtuous obtain Truth and give up their desires — not because they are suppressing them, but because something better has replaced them.
The Lord's Name is their support. Walking in harmony with the True Guru's Will, they cross over.
Virtue, in Gurmat, is not will-power. It is what naturally grows in the person oriented toward the teaching.
Saadhoo (virtuous ones) obtain Truth (sach) and abandon desires (trishna). The sequence matters: they first obtain Truth, and then they give up desires. The giving-up is not prior achievement — it is the consequence of finding something better.
This is the opposite of the hard-living model: you don't suppress desire first and then receive Truth. You receive Truth, and desire loses its grip. The nectar makes the substitutes unappealing.
Has there been something in your life that you previously craved that you no longer want — not because you forced yourself, but because something better replaced it? What was that shift?
