The world is polluted with the filth of egotism. Without the Guru, this pollution is not washed off.
Those who are attuned to the True Shabad are pure. The True Name is their purification bath.
External pollution has external cures. Ego-pollution has only one cure: the Name, given by the Guru.
The final Mehl 3 shabad in Siree Raag opens with the diagnostic: haumai mael (filth of egotism) pollutes the world. This is the systemic pollution — not individual sin but the structural condition of ego-bound existence.
Without the Guru, this pollution cannot be removed. External purification — the ritual bath, the sacred pilgrimage, the cleansing water — addresses external dirt. The ego-filth is interior and requires an interior remedy.
What is the difference, for you, between cleaning the outside and actually resolving something on the inside? When have you tried to clean the outside without addressing the inside?
