Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Naam is a Priceless Jewel — it is with the Perfect True Guru.
When one serves the True Guru with devotion, He brings out this Jewel and gives it.
Blessed are those who come to meet the Guru. They are the luckiest of the lucky.
This one says the Name is a priceless jewel, and the Guru gives it to those who serve.
Naam amolak ratan hai — the Name is a jewel beyond price. It has no price tag because no one can buy it. It is with the Perfect Guru. That doesn't mean the Guru keeps it from anyone. It means it is given, not bought or grabbed.
Kadh ratan dayvai pargaas — He brings out the jewel and lets its light shine. Serving the Guru is how that happens. Serving isn't paying for it. It is the turning of the heart that makes you ready to receive.
Think of a grandparent who opens an old box and brings out a treasure. They show it to the grandchild who sits beside them and helps, not to the one who demands it.
Dhan vadbhaagee vad bhaagee-aa — blessed and lucky, most lucky. The words pile up to show how rare and precious it is to come and meet the Guru.
Have you ever received something genuinely invaluable — from a person, from an experience — that you could not have bought or forced? How did it arrive?
