Through the Guru's Teachings, some embrace love for the Lord and are saved. They remain detached and unaffected — and find the Sanctuary of the Lord.
They keep death constantly before their eyes. They gather the Provisions of the Lord's Name and receive honor.
The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. The Lord Himself takes them into His Loving Embrace.
"Keep death constantly before your eyes" — aagan maran nit. This is one of the most counterintuitive spiritual practices: consistently remembering that you will die, that the rope is being gnawed daily. Not as morbidity but as the clarifying practice that makes every moment count.
When death is real to you, the fly-in-molasses mistake becomes less likely. You stop investing infinite energy into what cannot travel with you. You start gathering the only provisions (sach naamh — the provisions of the Name) that will.
The Stoics called this memento mori — remember your death. The Guru calls it aagan maran nit. The wisdom is the same: clarity about the end produces clarity about what matters now.
If you genuinely held in mind that your time is limited — not as a scary thought, but as a clear fact — what would you do differently today?
