Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Guru is Merciful. We seek the Sanctuary of God.
Through the Teachings of the True Guru, all worldly entanglements are eliminated.
The Name of the Lord is firmly implanted within my mind. Through His Ambrosial Glance of Grace, I am exalted.
Guru Arjan says the kind Guru led him to the One's shelter, and the Guru's teaching untangled his life.
Saran pa-ay prabh aapnay gur ho-aa kirpaal means the Guru was kind, and so we came to God's shelter. The Guru's mercy is what opens the door.
Satgur kai updaysi-ai binsay sarab janjaal means through the True Guru's teaching, all the tangles of the world are cleared away. Janjaal means a tangle, like a net that catches you. What clears it is the teaching. Not long trips, not hard trials for the body, not clever plans.
Think of a knotted necklace. Pulling harder only tightens the knots. Someone patient shows you where to loosen it, and it slides free.
Andar lagaa raam naam means the Lord's Name took root inside me. Amrit nadar nihaal means through the One's sweet, kind glance, I am lifted up with joy. Amrit means nectar. That glance is not ordinary looking. It is a look full of blessing.
What entanglements in your life feel most net-like — catching and holding you, making movement difficult? What teaching or practice has the most power to cut through them?
