Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
That is the essence of all the scriptures — to chant the Name of the Lord.
This alone is the real purpose. All the religious texts, all the sacred books, all the traditions — they are all pointing at this one thing.
The Guru has given the treasure of the Lord's Lotus Feet to be enshrined within the heart. This is the most valuable wealth.
Guru Arjan, who personally compiled the Adi Granth — a text of enormous breadth containing compositions from Sikh Gurus, Hindu bhagats, and Muslim Sufi saints — makes a sweeping claim: the saar (essence) of all scriptures is to meditate on the Naam.
This is not dismissive of other scriptures. It is the reader's guide to every scripture: whatever this text is saying, follow it to its root and you will find this instruction. The diversity of scripture is the diversity of approach; the convergence at the root is the Naam.
"Lotus Feet as wealth" — charan kamal given as the supreme treasure. The Lord's Feet (devotional humility) is not a practice leading to wealth. It is itself the wealth.
What do you think different religious traditions, at their deepest, are all pointing toward? Is there something they share? What is it?
