In plain words

In this world, your parents' home, serve your Husband Lord. Then in the world beyond, your in-laws' home, you will live in peace.

Meet with the Guru and be a true student of good ways, and suffering will never touch you.

Blessed are the happy soul-brides — those who have found the meeting with the Husband Lord — absorbed in His Word.
The deeper layer

This verse gives simple advice: love and serve the One now, and you will be at peace later.

Pay-ee-arhai saho sayv toon — in your parents' home, which is this world, serve your Husband Lord. Saahurrhai sukh vas — then in your in-laws' home, the world beyond, you will live in peace.

A bride who feels happy and loved in her new home is called a suhaagan. One who feels far from her husband is a duhaagan. Guru Amar Das uses these two pictures often in Siree Raag, and Guru Arjan uses them here too. The happy bride is the one who stays close to the Lord, lives in the Word, and spends time in the Saadh Sangat, the company of good people.

Gur mil chaj achaar sikh — meet the Guru and learn good ways of living. This learning is more than repeating words. It is Shabad vichaar: thinking about the Word, living inside it, and letting it slowly change how you see things.

Think of learning a new language by living with a family who speaks it. You don't just memorize words. You start to think in them. The Sangat is that kind of home for the Word.

TuDh kaday na lagai dukh — and then suffering will never touch you.

A Question to Sit With

What does 'being absorbed' in something feel like — when you are so engaged that the self-consciousness dissolves? What produces that for you?
