Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Guru is all-powerful. The Guru is without end. By great good luck, we get to see Him.
The Guru is beyond our senses, spotless and pure. No one else is as great as the Guru.
The Guru is the Creator. The Guru is the Doer. The one who follows the Guru gains true honor.
Nothing is outside the Guru. Whatever He wishes comes to be.
This line says: the Guru is greater than anything we can measure, and nothing is outside the Guru's reach.
Gur samrath apaar: the Guru is samrath, able to do anything, and apaar, without end. Vadbhaagee darsan ho-ay: by great good luck we get the darsan, the loving sight, of the Guru.
Gur agochar nirmalaa: the Guru is agochar, beyond what our senses can reach, and nirmal, spotless and pure. Gur jayvad avar na ko-ay: no one else is as great as the Guru.
Gur kartaa gur karanhaar: the Guru is the Creator and the Doer. In Guru Arjan's words, the Guru and the Lord work as one. The Guru carries God's own light.
Gurmukh sachee so-ay: the Gurmukh, the one who follows the Guru, gains true honor.
Gur tay baahar kichh nahee: nothing is outside the Guru. Gur keetaa lorhay so ho-ay: whatever He wishes comes to be.
Think of the sky. Birds, clouds and planes all move inside it. None of them ever flies out of it. That is how wide the Guru's care is. It goes with us at every step.
Have you ever been genuinely pierced by a teaching — where something went in and you couldn't un-know it? What was it? What did it change?
