Every revered title kept - and every meaning moved inside.
The Arc
The salok takes the aparas - the touch-nothing renunciate - and rewrites the job: the truly untouched one holds the Naam in the heart, sees God in all, and frees everyone. P1 rebuilds purity organ by organ: tongue without falsehood, eyes off others' spouses, ears closed to slander, self held as least of all - contact kept, corruption withdrawn. P2 redefines the Vaishnaav by desireless goodness: no reward sought, kindness to all creatures. P3 redefines the Bhagaautee: the Power worshiped in all beings. P4 crowns the true Pandit: he instructs his own mind first, drinks what he knows, teaches all four castes. P5 explodes the gates entirely: the Beej Mantra is public - anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam; even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved; the Naam is the remedy for all ills. P6 defines the true Ram Das, servant of the servants, mind as God's home. P7 gives the summit-title its simplest test: the Jivan Mukta loves the Will - gold and dust, honor and insult, beggar and king weigh the same. P8 reveals the board: all places are His; creatures are named for the houses they were placed in; the Resident is One.
Key Vocabulary
aparas - the "touch-nothing" ascetic (salok, P1); redefined as inner non-contact with falsehood, coveting, slander and pride.
nishkaam - without desire for reward (P2); goodness with the price-tag removed.
beej mantar - the Seed Mantra (P5); declared open to every class and creature.
sarab rog kaa aukhad naam - the Naam, remedy for all ills (P5).
daasan daas - slave of the Lord's slaves (P6).
jivan mukta - liberated while alive (P7); defined as loving the Will.

Themes and Cross-Connections
This is Sukhmani's great title-audit, and its method is the project's Inward Turn applied to religious identity itself: no title is mocked, every title is re-keyed to the heart. The Pandit pauri continues Gurbani's read-vs-taste polemic (Har Ras) but ends in salute - the correction is of scholarship's direction, not its existence. P5 is the social charter: the most powerful mantra is the most available one - the same de-gating as Japji's opening universality and the Bhagats' presence in the GGS itself (a weaver and a cobbler outranking emperors). The Jivan Mukta's four equations extend Gauree's equanimity teaching (pleasure and pain as one, Sukhmani 3.6) to its limit. P8's houses-and-names is Maajh's all-paths teaching in domestic imagery: the labels come from placement; the Resident is One. The Brahm Giani of Ashtapadee 8 stands behind every redefinition here - each corrected title is one more window on that single portrait.
Translation Notes
Salok/P1: SSK's "touch-nothing Saint" renders aparas - literally "one who does not touch." The children's sections keep the historical picture (holy men who feared the world's stain) so the reversal lands.
P3: Bhagaautee - devotee of Bhagavati/Adi Shakti; SSK glosses "devotee of Adi Shakti." The redefinition ("serves the Supreme in all") is the Gurmukhi's own pivot, not an interpretive addition.
P8: jaisaa ghar... taisaa naam - "according to the homes in which they are placed, so are His creatures named" - the line grounds the whole ashtapadee; the children's rendering keeps the houses image intact.
For Raag Gauree
Gauree has audited rituals (Asht. 3), ingratitude (4-6) and company (7); here it audits religious identity - and issues everyone the same passport. The raag of method ends this hymn with its most methodical finding: the houses are many, the Resident is One, and the door fee - one remembered Name - was waived for every class from the beginning.
