Blessed is the sight of such a soul - it rinses you just to look. Touching such feet, your own walk changes.
In that company praise starts to flow, and the road to the Highest opens.
Hearing such teaching, the ears are finally fed; the mind settles; the soul feels full. The Guru is complete, and the Teaching stands forever.
One glance of that kindness, and something saintly wakes in you. His virtues have no end and no price - and whoever pleases Him is drawn into union.
Being near someone truly holy changes you through every one of your senses.
The verse goes sense by sense. Darsan, the sight of the Guru, makes you pure. Touching the Guru's feet changes how you live. Being in the Guru's company starts the praise flowing. Hearing the Teachings fills the ears, settles the mind and satisfies the soul.
Earlier in Sukhmani, truth was shown passing from person to person by contact. Here it comes in through every door. It is like sitting near a campfire. No one needs to give you a lesson on heat; you just get warm. That is why the tradition treasures simply being near the truly holy. Being near comes before any lessons. Sukhmani has said this since its seventh set of verses, and now it says it about the Guru.
Amrit darisat paykhai ho-ay sant — whoever meets that nectar glance becomes saintly. Amrit is nectar, the sweet drink of life. Earlier, Sukhmani gave this glance to the one who truly knows God. Now it is named as the Guru's own gift. And a circle closes. A kind glance, over time, makes new people whose own glances are kind. Grace spreads from face to face.
Pooraa gur akh-ya-o jaa kaa mantar — the Guru is complete, and the Teaching lasts forever. This is why the Word outlives every body. The Teaching, not the frame that carries it, is what never dies.
Have you ever been changed just by being around someone - before they taught you anything in words?
