Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Remembering the One, people become radiant - it is how every wise book got written, how every giver and every saint was made.
Remembering, even the overlooked become known in all four directions.
The whole world was set up for this remembering - the One made all of creation as a place where remembering could happen.
And in remembrance, the One Himself is formless - no shape, no edges, just presence. By Grace comes understanding. Nanak says: turning toward the Guru, a person finds remembrance.
The world itself was built as a place to remember the One, and the deepest remembering needs no form at all.
The last verse of this first set of eight widens the view to the whole of creation. Har simran Dhaaree sabh Dharnaa — for remembering the Lord, the whole world was set up. Creation is not a test, a punishment or an accident. It is a place built for remembering. That changes everything. Every sunrise, every meal and every face is a chance for simran, remembering.
The verse also touches its deepest note. Har simran meh aap nirankaaraa — in remembering, the One Himself is nirankaar, without form. The deeper remembering goes, the fewer shapes it needs. In the end what is remembered is the formless Oneness itself, Ik Onkar. Think of a song that stays with you long after the music stops.
Har simran neech chahu kunt jaatay — through remembering, the overlooked become known in all four directions. This brings to mind the Bhagats, the saints whose songs sit in the Guru Granth Sahib. A shoemaker and a weaver are remembered forever because of their remembering, while many emperors are forgotten.
This set of eight ends where Sukhmani always ends. Kar kirpaa jis aap bujhaa-i-aa — by grace the One gives understanding. Naanak gurmukh har simran tin paa-i-aa — the gurmukh, the one facing the Guru, finds the remembering. It is a gift received, not a trophy won.
If you believed the world was made as a place for remembering what matters most, how would you treat an ordinary day?
