As Water Into Water, the Light Blends Into Light
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
And sometimes - the wandering being finds the Sangat.
From that place, there is no falling back. The light of understanding dawns inside. That ground, once gained, does not perish.
Mind and body soak in the love of the Name; the being lives with the One, always.
As water blends into water, the light blends into the Light. The circling ends. Deep peace. Nanak says: to this One I give myself, forever.
The circling ends when a person finds the Sangat. Then their light blends into the One's Light, like water into water.
kabhoo saaDhsangat ih paavai — sometimes this being finds the saaDhsangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. us asthaan tay bahur na aavai — from that place, there is no going back.
Every other "sometimes" could flip. King turned to beggar. Praise turned to blame. Elephant turned to moth. This one is different. It is like the one square on a game board that finally lets you step off the track.
The reason comes in the last picture: ji-o jal meh jal aa-ay khataanaa, ti-o jotee sang jot samaanaa — as water blends into water, the light blends into the Light. Pour a cup of water into a lake. No line is left between them. Nothing could pull them apart again. The joining is not a knot that might slip. It is finding out there were never two. That is Ik Oankaar, "there is One," as the soul's own truth.
The wheel of costumes ends. The actor does not win the play. The actor melts into the Author. This section took all power out of human hands. Here it shows what those hands were freed for: this.
When a drop joins the ocean, what has it lost - and what has it become?
