Hold What's Real and You Become Real Yourself
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
True are your skies and stars, true your whole wide world; true is everything the One does.
And those who hold onto the One become true and real themselves — while whatever only comes and goes is passing, like a shadow.
This is one of the Vaar's famous litanies — the word sach (True, real, lasting) repeated over and over: True are Your worlds, True Your creation, True Your actions, True Your Court. It's a chant of reality — naming everything the One makes and does as real and dependable, not a trick or an illusion. And the turn at the end: those who hold the True One become true themselves, while those subject to birth and death — whatever is only temporary — are called false, meaning passing, not lasting. To attach yourself to what's real is to become real; to chase only the fleeting is to be as fleeting as it. The litany's rhythm is meant to soak in: real, real, real — the One and all it does can be trusted.
What are the true, lasting things you most want to build your life around?
