Verse 3 of 4

In the True Homeland, No High or Low

ਕਾਇਮੁ ਦਾਇਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ॥
kaa-im daa-im sadaa paatisaahee.
God's Kingdom is steady, stable and eternal.
ਦੋਮ ਨ ਸੇਮ ਏਕ ਸੋ ਆਹੀ ॥
dom na saym ayk so aahee.
There is no second or third status; all are equal there.
ਆਬਾਦਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਸਹੂਰ ॥
aabaadaan sadaa mashoor.
That city is populous and eternally famous.
ਊਹਾਂ ਗਨੀ ਬਸਹਿ ਮਾਮੂਰ ॥੨॥
oohaaN ganee baseh maamoor. ||2||
Those who live there are wealthy and contented. ||2||

In plain words

This kingdom is steady and lasting, never shaken.

There is no first-class or second-class here — everyone is equal, all one.

The city is full of life and known far and wide.

Those who live there are rich and completely content.

In the true homeland there is no high or low — everyone is equal and enough.
The deeper layer

Here is the revolutionary heart of Begampura, and it shines: dom na saym, ayk so aahee — "no second, no third; all are one and equal." In a world sliced into castes and classes, Ravidas dreams a place with no ranking at all — no high or low, everyone equal. This is Ik Onkar made social: if there is only oneness, then hierarchy is a fiction. And everyone there is "rich and content" — not with money, but with the fullness of belonging. It's a vision of dignity, equality, and enough for all.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think Ravidas dreamed of a place with no ranking between people?
