To be imbued and attuned to the Word of the Shabad; to be kind and compassionate; to sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises - these are the most worthwhile actions in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.
ਮਿਟੰਤਿ ਤਤ੍ਰਾਗਤ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹੰ ॥
mitant tatraagat bharam mohaN.
In this way, one's inner doubts and emotional attachments are dispelled.
ਭਗਵਾਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਥਾਨ੍ਯ੍ਯਿੰ ॥
bhagvaan ramnaN sarbatar thaani-yaN.
God is pervading and permeating all places.

So obtain the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; He dwells upon the tongues of the Holy.

O Nanak, meditate and chant the Name of the Beloved Lord, Har, Har, Har, Haray. ||8||

In plain words

To be soaked in the Word, to be kind and caring, to sing the praises of the One — these are the deeds most worth doing in this dark age.

This way, the doubts and clinging inside are wiped away.

The One is present in every place.

So see the One, a sight that always bears fruit. The One lives on the tongues of holy people.

Nanak says: repeat the Naam of the Beloved, Har, Har, Har, Haray.

Kindness, the Word and praise are the deeds most worth doing.
The deeper layer

Loving the Word, being kind and singing the One's praises are the deeds most worth doing, and they clear away doubt and clinging.

Sabda rata hita ma-i-aa keerta: being soaked in the Word, being kind, and singing praise. Kalee karam kritu-aa: these are the deeds worth doing in kali, the dark age. Mitant tatraagat bharam mohan: through them, doubt and clinging melt away.

Bhagvaan ramnan sarbatar thaaniyan: the One fills every place. Basant saaDh rasnaa: the One lives on the tongues of holy people, in their words and songs. The closing har har har haray is the beloved repeating of the Naam.

A Question to Sit With

If you could only pour your energy into a few things, which few would you choose — and are you choosing them?
