Salok Sehskritee, Salok 14 — Do Not Wait to Do Good
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Do not wait to do what is right. Wait, and wait, before doing wrong.
Plant the Naam firmly inside you, and let go of greed.
In the shelter of the saints, wrongs are wiped away, and a person receives the ways of goodness —
Nanak says: the person the One is pleased with.
Be quick to do good and slow to do wrong, and keep the Naam firm inside.
Nah bilamb Dharman, bilamb paapan: no delay in doing right; delay in doing wrong. We often rush toward what we want and put off what is good. The salok turns that around. Naama tajant lobha: hold the Naam firmly and drop greed.
Saran santan kilbikh naasan: in the shelter of the saints, wrongs are cleared away. Praaptan Dharam lakh-yin: the marks of goodness come to the one jih suparsan maaDhvah, the one the One is pleased with. Goodness here is a gift, received.
Is there a good thing you have been putting off? What would it take to do it today?
