Salok Sehskritee, Salok 40 — Everywhere I Look
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Wherever I look, I see the One — in this world, in the heavens, and in the worlds below.
Nanak says: the Lord of the Universe is present everywhere, and no blame or stain ever sticks to the One.
The One fills every place, and nothing that passes through the world can stain it.
Jat katah tatah darista — wherever I look, there it is. In this world, in the heavens, in the deepest places below. The One fills everything.
And yet nothing sticks to the One. No blame. No dirt. It is like sunlight. It shines on a clean room and on a muddy puddle alike. The sunlight does not get muddy.
So the One is in every place, and still stays pure. That gives us a new way of seeing. No place is empty of the One. No corner is forgotten. Once you start noticing the One everywhere, the whole world feels full.
Pick any spot around you right now. Can you imagine the same One being present there as everywhere else?
