Salok Sehskritee, Salok 47 — Beggars at a Generous Door

In the shelter of the kind Master, the Supreme One, we are carried across.
The One is the perfect, all-powerful Cause of causes, the Giver of gifts.
The One gives hope to the hopeless and is the home of every kind of wealth.
Nanak says: I remember the Treasure of all good qualities. We are all beggars, asking at the One's door.
Everyone, rich or poor, stands as a beggar at the same generous door.
The One is kind and carries people across. The One is the cause behind every cause, and the Giver of every gift. The One gives hope to those who have none, and is the source of every kind of wealth.
Then comes the line that makes everyone equal: sagal jaachant jaachikeh. All of us are beggars at this door. The richest and the poorest. The strongest and the weakest.
Think of kids lining up at a water fountain on a hot day. Nobody made the water. Everyone just needs it. Needing and asking is simply being human. There is no shame in coming with empty hands, and this door is always kind.
