His desire for this and that is not satisfied; his mind is caught in Maya, and he is acting like a pig. ||66||

In plain words

He steals other people's wealth and causes all kinds of trouble. His preaching to everyone is only to earn his own living.

His wanting for this and that is never satisfied. His mind is caught in maya, the pull of things that do not last, and he acts like a pig that is never full.

Preaching only for gain never fills the heart.
The deeper layer

Preaching just to fill your own pockets leaves you always hungry.

The salok describes a person who takes what belongs to others and causes trouble. Even his teaching is only a way to earn his living. His wanting is never full. His mind is caught in maya, the pull of things that do not last. The verse compares him to a greedy animal that is never satisfied.

Think of a bucket with a hole in the bottom. You can pour and pour, and it never fills.

Words are powerful. Used only to grab for yourself, they leave you always hungry. Used to give and to help, they fill you up.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed the difference between doing something to get, and doing something to give? Which one leaves you feeling better?
