In plain words

The True Guru has pitched a tent, and all the ages gather under it.

He carries inner knowing like a spear, and the Naam is his support. Through it, the devotees are filled.

Guru Nanak, Guru Angad and Guru Amar Das, through devotion, have merged with the One.

Guru Ram Das, you alone know the taste of this raaj jog: ruling like a king and staying joined with the One.

True shelter is the kind with room for everybody.
The deeper layer

The Guru's shelter is a tent big enough for every age.

Khaymaa means tent. The Guru has pitched it, and every age of the world gathers under it. Think of a huge tent at a festival, where no one is left out in the rain.

The Guru carries anbha-o, clear seeing that comes from within. The verse calls it his spear. He leans on the Naam, and through it the devotees are filled.

Then it names the line of Gurus. Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, and Guru Amar Das all merged into the One through loving devotion.

The last line names raaj jog. Raaj means ruling, like a king. Jog means being joined with the One. Together they mean being a king and a yogi at the same time. You live fully in the world and stay free inside it. Guru Ram Das, the verse says, knows the taste of this.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever been under a tent — a place or group — where you felt no one was left out? What made it feel that way?
