The world is a deep ocean no one can measure. The Naam of the One, from the Guru's own mouth, is the raft that carries you across.
For those who hold this trust in their hearts, the round of birth and death in this world comes to an end.
Those who hold this trust in their hearts are given the highest place.
They let go of the pull of passing things, of clinging and greed. The ache of wanting, craving and anger leaves them.
They are given an inner sight that sees the One, the Cause of everything, and all their doubts fall away.
So serve the true Guru, whose ways no one can know. Guru Ram Das is the boat that carries us across.
The Naam is a simple raft that carries you across the widest water.
Tulhaa means a raft, humbler than a ship. The Naam comes from the Guru's own mouth. When trust, parteet, settles in the heart, the round of birth and death ends.
What falls away is maa-i-aa, the pull of passing things, along with clinging, greed, craving and anger. Like heavy bags, they can be set down. Then comes dib-y darisat, an inner way of seeing. With it you see the One behind everything, and doubt goes. The closing line returns: Guru Ram Das is the boat that carries us across.
