Salok Vaaraan Te Vadheek (Mehl 4), Salok 106 — the ones who live attuned
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The force of ego rules inside, and Maya, the pull of the world, holds the body; the false keep coming and going.
One who cannot accept the True Guru's word cannot cross the hard, wide ocean of the world.
Whoever the One looks on with kindness walks in step with the True Guru's will.
Seeing the True Guru bears fruit; whatever one wishes for, one receives.
I touch the feet of those who trust and follow the True Guru.
Nanak says: I am the servant of those who stay lovingly tuned to the One, day and night.
Ego keeps a person coming and going; the One's kind glance sets them walking with the True Guru.
Antar jor ha-umai: the force of ego, the feeling of being a separate self, rules inside, and maa-i-aa, the pull of the world, holds the body. Such a life is koorhee aavai jaa-ay, false, coming and going. Nadar karay jis aapnee: the One's kind glance is what turns a person to walk in the True Guru's will.
Satgur kaa darsan safal hai: seeing the True Guru bears fruit. The salok ends in humility — touching the feet of those who follow the Guru and serving those who stay liv laa-ay, lovingly tuned, day and night.
What would it look like to stay a little more tuned to the One, day by day?
