The Only Profit Worth Carrying

O Nanak, is truly honored by the True Supreme King. ||13||

In plain words

Chant the jewel of the Naam — that is the profit worth earning.

Greed and grabbing, ego and meanness, backbiting and gossip —

a person who follows only their own mind goes blind, foolish and lost.

We came into the world to earn that profit — yet a person ends up a hired hand, robbed by Maya, the great robber.

Nanak says: whoever earns the Naam, with trust as their savings, is honored by the True King.

We came here to gather something that lasts — don't get tricked out of it.
The deeper layer

Laahaa is profit; poonjee vaysaahu is the capital of trust. The self-facing state (manmukh) is a turned-around condition anyone can slip into. Thagaa-ay thag — tricked by the trickster, Maya. We came to gather something lasting; the danger is being too busy to notice.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you're gathering now that you could keep forever?
