Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Again and again a crow flutters into the same snare, pecking at the bait without seeing the trap.
Then it is sorry — but what can it do now?
Even trapped, it keeps pecking at the bait; it doesn't understand. If it meets the True Guru, its eyes open.
Like a fish, it is caught in the net of death. Don't look for freedom from anyone but the Guru, the great Giver.
Over and over it comes, over and over it goes.
Sink into love for the One, and stay lovingly focused there.
That's how you get free — and you won't fall into the trap again.
The crow and the fish caught in the snare picture habitual craving; the net is the net of death (jam jaal), the round of coming and going. Satgur milai ta aakhee soojhai — the guide opens the eyes. Iv chhootai fir faas na paa-ay — a freedom that holds. Only the Guru-Giver frees (grace).
What bait keeps pulling you back into the same trap?
