He Himself does everything; who else should we address? No one else does anything. ||45||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
The One's soldiers take good care of their post, their reward already set before they arrived.
They serve their Master with all their heart and gather the profit.
They let go of greed and spite, forgetting them clean out of mind.
Inside the fort of the body they raise the flag of the One's victory, and are never defeated.
But whoever calls themselves a servant, then talks back defiantly, loses their reward and their seat.
All greatness rests in the Beloved's hands, given as it pleases — the One does everything; who else is there to ask?
Guard the inner fort with a humble heart, and it's never defeated.
The deeper layer
The body is a fort (garh) held by the One's soldiers, the faithful, whose "pay" (grace) is pre-ordained. Garh dohee paatisaah kee — proclaiming the King's victory within, never defeated. The servant who "speaks defiantly" forfeits — humility against arrogance. Grace: greatness given as it pleases.
