Verse 29 of 72

Join the Oneness Like a Drop Into the Sea

ਬਬਾ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥
babaa bindeh bind milaavaa.
BABBA: When one drop blends with another drop,
ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦਿ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
bindeh bind na bichhuran paavaa.
then these drops cannot be separated again.
ਬੰਦਉ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਗਹੈ ॥
banda-o ho-ay bandagee gahai.
Become the Lord's slave, and hold tight to His meditation.
ਬੰਦਕ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਧ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੨੯॥
bandak ho-ay banDh suDh lahai. ||29||
If you turn your thoughts to the Lord, the Lord will take care of you like a relative. ||29||

In plain words

**B** — when one drop of water blends into another, you can never pull them apart again. They are simply one water now. That is what it is like when your heart joins with the Oneness.

So give yourself fully to that closeness — hold tight to it, stay near it, let your love for the One be the steady center of your days. When you turn your whole self toward the One like this, the One holds you close and cares for you the way family cares — never letting go, always near.

Join your heart to the Oneness the way a drop joins the sea — and you are held close, cared for like family, never to be separated again.
The deeper layer

The letter Babba. bindeh bind milaavaa — drop merges into drop; bindeh bind na bichhuran paavaa — once merged, the drops can never be separated again. This is the classic drop-in-the-ocean image of union that runs through mystic traditions worldwide. banda-o ho-ay bandagee gahai — the literal has "become the servant and hold to devotion (bandagee)"; rendered here as giving oneself fully and staying near, keeping the loving intimacy rather than a language of slavery. The closing bandhu image — the One cares for you like a relative, a kinsman — is the warm heart of it: devotion is answered not with distance but with family closeness. The drop does not lose itself in fear; it comes home to the water it was always made of.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life makes you feel held and cared for no matter what — and how does that steady closeness feel?
