Turn Back Again and No Defeat Can Touch You
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
**V** — again and again, keep the One close in your thoughts. Return to that remembrance over and over, like coming back to a warm home. When you dwell there, no defeat can touch you — you cannot truly lose.
I offer myself gladly, again and again, to those who sing the praises of the good and holy ones, the friends of the One. And in that meeting — in coming close to the One — the whole of Truth is found. Everything real opens up when you arrive there.
The letter Wawa/Vava. baar baar bisan sammhaar — again and again, remember and hold to Bisan (Vishnu, the Preserver — named respectfully as one of the divine names, per project practice of honoring names across traditions). sammhaar na aavai haar — dwelling thus, defeat (haar) never comes. bal bal jay bisantanaa jas gaavai — I am a sacrifice (bal bal — I offer myself utterly) to those who sing the praises of the bisantanaa — the "sons of the Lord," the saints, the good company (sangat). This reverence for holy company is a keynote of Gurbani. visan milay sabh hee sach paavai — meeting the One, total sach — Truth — is obtained. The steady, repeated turning of the heart toward the One (simran), always framed positively, is what makes a life unshakeable.
What's something good you come back to again and again that keeps you steady when things get hard?
