In plain words

Kachhaylee, Patamanjaree and Todee are sung;

Kaamodee and Goojaree are set beside Deepak.

A melody can be named for a flame, music that lights something up inside you.
The deeper layer

Five companion melodies stand around Deepak, the raag named for a lamp.

Deepak means a lamp. A famous old legend held that this raag, sung perfectly, could light the lamps of a hall by itself, a story that shows how much power people felt in music. The companion melodies are thaap, set in place, beside Deepak. Todee and Goojaree are also full raags elsewhere in the book.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a song that lights you up — that can turn a dark mood bright?
