Verse 2 of 5

This Life Is Diminishing Day and Night

a-oDh ghatai dinas rainaaray. man gur mil kaaj savaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This life is diminishing, day and night. Meeting with the Guru, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Day and night, this life is being used up. Time is passing.

Meet the Guru. Your affairs will be resolved.

Time is passing — and the meeting that resolves everything is available right now.
The deeper layer

The rahao (pause) shabad is almost shockingly direct. Every day that passes is one fewer day remaining. This is not a morbid observation — it is an honest one. The Guru's recommendation is not "panic" but "meet the Guru" — meaning, connect with the source, find the teacher, enter the practice. Things that seemed complicated and unresolvable become clear when seen from the right vantage point.

A Question to Sit With

When you think about how you spent the last year — what are you glad you did? What do you wish you had started earlier?
