In plain words

Why, O mind, do you keep planning and scheming — worrying about how everything will work out — when the Lord is already providing for you?

From rocks and stones He created living beings. He places their nourishment in front of them. Creatures that grow in solid rock still find a way to eat.

The one who feeds creatures living inside rocks can certainly provide for you — so why the planning?
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan (the Fifth Guru) opens with one of the most practical and reassuring teachings in the GGS: the anxious, planning, scheming mind is not actually providing for you. The oneness is. And it has been doing so since before you were born.

The image is striking: creatures living inside rocks, in places with no apparent food or light, are sustained by the same source that sustains you. The oneness does not require ideal conditions to provide. It works in the dark, in the hard places, in the impossible situations. The worry is, in this sense, unnecessary — not because life is easy, but because the source has never failed.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of a time when something worked out even though you could not see how it would? What did that teach you about the difference between your worrying and reality?
