Raag Aasaa
Commentary

Raag Aasaa, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

The soul is forever illumined in the company of the holy; say the Name each and every day for lasting peace, and meet the Perfect One by the blessing of good destiny.

The Arc

Pauri 0: the soul forever illumined, dwelling at the Feet in the Sangat. The Pause (Pauri 1): chant the Name daily for lasting peace, and sins depart. Pauri 2: the one blessed with good karma meets the Guru and finds the Perfect One.

Key Vocabulary

  • the soul forever illumined: a steady inner light kept in holy company
  • daily practice: chanting the Name "each and every day" (naam simran)
  • Sat Sangat: where the light burns steady
  • good karma / grace: meeting the Guru rests on blessing, not cleverness

Themes and Cross-Connections

The emphasis on daily practice ("each and every day") is a clear note on the regularity of naam simran — steady repetition over dramatic bursts. The steady inner light and the Sangat tie to B00C742 and B00C750; meeting the Guru by good karma is Gurprasad.

For Raag Aasaa

Aasaa's hope is built day by day: a little practice, kept up, becomes a steady light and a lasting calm. The mood is quiet and encouraging — the dignity of the daily.
