Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Forever and always, the soul is lit from within.

In the company of the holy, it lives at the Feet of the One.

An inner light burns steady in a soul that keeps good company.
The deeper layer

This one says the soul shines with a steady light when it stays in good company.

Sadaa sadaa aatam pargaas — "forever and always, the soul is lit from within." This is a steady light, not a flicker. SaaDhsangat har charan nivaas — in the Saadh Sangat, the company of the holy, the soul lives at the Feet of the One.

The two go together. Think of a candle. Out in the wind, its flame keeps blowing about. In a still room, it burns straight and calm. Good company is the still room. There, the inner light burns steady.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company helps keep your inner light steady?
