Raag Aasaa
Commentary

Raag Aasaa, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

Renounce the passions and pride, attach to the Saints' Feet, for meditation on the One is the only fruitful action — so awaken, worship the Purifier of sinners, and your destiny is fulfilled.

The Arc

The Pause (Pauri 0): renounce lust, anger, greed; remember the Name — the only fruitful action. Pauri 1: renounce pride and falsehood, chant the Name, attach to the Saints' Feet. Pauri 2: awaken and meditate on the merciful Purifier of sinners; your destiny is fulfilled.

Key Vocabulary

  • the only fruitful action: meditation on the One, the rest busy but barren
  • renounce and attach: dropping the bad, attaching to the good (two sides of one turning)
  • Purifier of sinners: the One merciful to the meek
  • "awaken": the call to wake now (cf. B00C877)
