ਏਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਕ ॥
ayk vasat boojheh taa hoveh paak.
If you could understand even one thing, then you would be pure.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੪॥
bin boojhay tooN sadaa naapaak. ||4||

If you could truly understand even one thing, you would be pure.
Without that understanding, you stay forever unclean.
One real understanding purifies you more than any outer washing.
The one thing that purifies is understanding — "if one understands even one thing, then he is pure." Not ritual washing, not adornment, but genuine understanding (of the One, of one's own nature) makes a person clean. Without it, no outer cleansing reaches the real impurity, which is ignorance.
