The Greatest Treasure Is What You Give Yourself To

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
har sayvaa meh param niDhaan.
In the Lord's service, are the greatest treasures.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
har sayvaa mukh amrit naam. ||1||
Serving the Lord, the Ambrosial Naam comes into one's mouth. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In serving the One lie the greatest treasures of all.

Serve, and the Ambrosial Name itself rises to your lips.

The greatest treasure isn't in what you own, but in what you give yourself to.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan opens by locating "the greatest treasures" in service — not in possession but in serving. And the reward of service is the Name rising spontaneously "into one's mouth." Serving and remembering turn out to be one movement (Naam).

A Question to Sit With

What is something you've gained by giving rather than getting?
