Verse 3 of 5

The Holiest Bath Is the Dust of Good Company

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
taripat aghaavan saachai naa-ay.
I am satisfied and satiated by the True Name.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
athsath majan sant Dhooraa-ay. ||2||
My cleansing bath at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is the dust of the Saints. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am full and content with the True Name.

My bath at the sixty-eight holy shrines is simply the dust of the Saints' feet.

The holiest bath is the humble dust of good company — not any famous shrine.
The deeper layer

Pilgrimage internalized and humbled: the soul's "cleansing bath at the sixty-eight sacred shrines" is nothing but "the dust of the Saints." The lowliest thing — dust from the feet of the holy — replaces all the famous tiraths. Humility in good company is the real pilgrimage (cf. Shabad 40, Shabad 56).

A Question to Sit With

Whose company leaves you feeling cleaner and better than any place could?
