and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||

In plain words

The soul may let go of lust, anger, greed, and attachment. She may let go of meanness and pride as well.

If she grows humble and serves Him, she becomes dear to her Beloved's heart.

What makes a soul dear isn't ritual — it's letting go of the passions and growing humble.
The deeper layer

What makes a soul dear to the One is not ritual. It is letting go and growing humble.

The verse names what to let go of. First come four of the Panch Vikaar, the "five thieves" inside us: lust, anger, greed, and clinging. Then it adds meanness and pride.

Think of clearing a cluttered desk before you can do your best work. Once the clutter is gone, there is room. What fills that room is humble service, helping without needing credit. That clearing and that lowering of the self is what wins the Beloved's heart.

A Question to Sit With

Which of the five — wanting, anger, greed, clinging, pride — would you most like to loosen?
