Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Listen, beautiful soul: by the Word of the Holy One, you will be saved.

Your pain, your hunger, and your doubt will vanish, and you will find peace.

Pain, hunger, and doubt can all dissolve together in the peace the Word brings.
The deeper layer

This is the pause line, the Rahao, the center of the shabad. It promises that pain, hunger, and doubt can all melt away together.

It speaks to the soul as a "beautiful soul-bride," someone longing to be close to the Beloved. The promise is: "By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved."

Three troubles are named: pain, hunger, and doubt. They do not go one at a time. They all fade together in the peace the Word brings. Think of opening a window in a stuffy room. The heat, the smell, and the stale air all leave at once. The Word, shared in the Sangat, the gathering of the holy, is what opens the window.

A Question to Sit With

What three worries would you most want to see vanish at once?
