The Chance Is Slipping Away; Don't Put Off the Crossing

ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥
saraNjaam laag bhavjal taran kai.
Make the effort, and cross over the terrifying world ocean.
ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam baritha jaat rang maa-i-aa kai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This human life is passing away in vain, in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Make the effort, and cross the terrifying ocean.

This human life is slipping away for nothing, in the love of illusion.

The chance isn't only rare — it's slipping away, so don't put off the crossing.
The deeper layer

The Pause adds urgency: "make the effort, and cross over" — because "this human life is passing away in vain, in the love of Maya." The chance is not only rare but fleeting; every day lost to illusion is the opportunity draining away.

A Question to Sit With

What have you been putting off that you don't want to let slip away?
